SABRE APARTMENTS

Location: Woolloongabba, Queensland

Status: Completed

A small and highly efficient multi-residential project comprising 25 apartments over 5 levels. The apartments are a mixture of one and two bedrooms which respond to a demand from owner occupiers in a rapidly changing area of Brisbane’s inner city.

The project features several inventive solutions. Communal recreation space is maximised by being placed on the ground level covering the basement car parking below. A large terraced area flows to a wide expanse of deep planting along the street frontage allowing residents a level of privacy but also a subtle interaction with the street. The landscape is conceptualised as an extension of a park directly opposite the development. Façade treatments are abstractions of local flora and provide a level of kinetic movement to the building.

Two levels of car parking are required and they are accessed by an unconventional, sculptural split ramp arrangement. Pockets of deep planting within the upper car parking level bring an unexpected level of amenity to a tight inner-city site.
